Orthopaedics

Before deciding the best course of treatment for your pets orthopaedic ailments our vets will perform an in-depth clinical examination as well as obtaining x-rays to evaluate the most effective treatment for your pet. We will guide you through the process of what will happen as some orthopaedic procedures can require significant recuperation time followed by physiotherapy, especially for joint operations.

Reasons why your pet needs orthopaedic care

There are a number of medical situations, such as trauma or musculoskeletal conditions, which make orthopaedic surgery necessary to get your pet back functioning more normally. These include:

    • fractures due to trauma or road traffic accidents
    • treating joint diseases (e.g. stifle instability, patella luxation)
    • correcting limb deformities

During orthopaedic treatment for pets, an implant or external fixation may be required to stabilise the affected bone or joint and ensure correct healing, but rest assured that we make every effort to maximise the benefits of orthopaedic veterinary surgery while minimizing its negative effects.

How We Can Help

At Highfield we are proud of the incredible facilities we have established at our practices, which allow us to perform orthopaedic surgery that can vastly improve your pet’s quality of life. We have created an environment where veterinary best practice and care of your pet are always to the fore. This is especially important with orthopaedic surgery and emergency operations, which have the potential to be a very stressful time for you and your pet, so it’s important to know that they are in safe hands.

How orthopeadic care works

After the orthopaedic surgery, we will discuss your pet’s recovery plan outlining the main stages along its journey back to its best. They may have to stay as an inpatient for some days before continuing their recovery at home, but don’t worry, our vet clinics are custom-built to make any stay with us as comforting as possible in the hands of our dedicated and caring team.
